Tempe, AZ, to St. Louis, MO (The Trip Home)
<< YESTERDAY INDEX

Day 9: Saturday

The airport was insanity.  There was a great deal of confusion, a lack of personnel, and some very angry Homeland Security employees.  This was my worst airport experience, ever.  To top it off they charged me $80 to check my bike, but they didn’t put it on the plane.  It showed up on some other flight.

The insanity of the city, airports, and planes always manages to put a screeching halt to any sense of peace that comes about from pedaling through the desert for a few days.  That’s why I enjoy taking pictures and writing these detailed journals.  I can look back and recall why I love these trips so much.

Here are the statistics, as best as I can get:

Time in motion: 33 hours, 16 minutes
Distance: 442.5 miles
Average Speed: 13.3 mph
Maximum Speed: 34.9 mph
Temperature: 45-105°F
Feet Climbed: 12,860 feet (2.43 miles)
