Getting to San Diego
INDEX TOMORROW >>

Day 0: Thursday

After five hours of lectures, four exams, and a crazy week, spring break is finally here.  And so I boarded my plane for San Diego.

I checked my bike as luggage, something I did not do on previous trips out of fear of the baggage handlers or lost luggage.  American Airlines happily charged me $80 to check the bike, which weighed in at 40 lbs., including the cardboard box and junk I stuffed into it.  Never mind that one can check two 50lb. bags for free … so long as they don’t contain a bicycle.

Anyway, I don’t want to start of my travel log with complaints about airline service.  After arriving in San Diego I met up with my friend Jesse in the airport.  He had just arrived on a flight from North Dakota.  We then hired a shuttle to the Good Nite Inn, where we had reservations.  It was very late by the time Jesse and I were able to order up some pizza, assemble our bikes, and get some sleep.
